Tap Repair & Replacement in London

Vetted & insured engineers Clear pricing before work starts G3-qualified for unvented cylinders No gas work — plumbing only

A dripping tap wastes up to 5,500 litres a year and announces itself every night at 2am. Our London plumbers repair or replace taps of every type, usually within the hour.

London water notes: London's supply is hard — Thames Water draws heavily from chalk aquifers and the Thames itself, so limescale builds fast on heating elements, shower heads and tap internals. London's stock runs from Victorian and Georgian terraces with generations of altered pipework to high-rise flats with pumped and boosted supplies, and each brings its own failure patterns. Mains supply here is managed by Thames Water.

Repairs: washers, cartridges and seals

Traditional compression taps drip because the washer or seat has worn — a re-washer and reseat is a fast, cheap repair. Ceramic disc taps (most modern mixers and quarter-turn taps) drip because the cartridge has worn or scaled; we carry common cartridge sizes and match obscure ones by manufacturer. O-rings cure leaks from the spout base and handles. In London's water, scale accelerates all of this — which also means a serviced tap lasts visibly longer than a neglected one.

Replacement done properly

When we replace a tap in London, isolation valves go in as standard if there are none — future repairs then take minutes and no draining down. Old flexis are replaced rather than reused, back-nuts get proper tools rather than swearing, and monoblocs are stabilised with the correct fixing kit so the tap doesn't work loose in a month. You can supply your own tap or choose from ranges we stock.

The real cost of a drip

One drip per second is roughly 5,500 litres a year — on a metered London supply, that's paid for twice, as water and as sewerage. Hot taps are worse: every drip carries heating cost too. A £65 repair typically pays for itself within months on a metered hot tap, before counting the staining and scale damage to the sink below.

Tap work pricing in London

Repairs from £65 including standard parts; replacement labour is a fixed band with the tap itself either supplied by you or itemised by us. Awkward access — seized fittings, no isolation, corroded traps in the way — is flagged before work continues, never billed as a surprise. All London pricing is confirmed before the engineer starts.

Frequently asked questions

Do you fix outside taps?

Yes — repairs, replacements and new outside tap installations with the legally required double-check valve for backflow prevention, plus an internal isolation point so you can drain it each winter.

My mixer tap has low pressure on hot only — why?

Common on combi and gravity systems: scale or a blocked hot-side inlet filter, a kinked or degraded flexi, or the tap's internal flow restrictor. It's diagnosable in minutes with the tap head off.

Is a constantly dripping tap really worth fixing?

On a metered supply, unambiguously: thousands of litres a year, charged as both water and sewerage, plus heating cost on hot taps. The repair usually costs less than the annual waste.

Can you fit a tap I bought online?

Yes — supply-your-own is fine and priced at the same labour rate. We'll check compatibility (tail lengths, hole spacing, pressure requirements) before removing the old tap, so a mismatch is caught before the sink is out of action.
