Frequently asked questions
Is a check valve legally required on an outside tap?
Yes — backflow prevention (a double-check valve) is required under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations so contaminated hose water can't siphon back into the drinking supply. It's fitted as standard on our installs.
How long does an outside tap installation take?
Typically 1–2 hours where the tap goes through the wall near the kitchen sink. Longer routes are surveyed and quoted first.
Why did my outside tap split over winter?
Water trapped in the tap and feed pipe froze and expanded — usually because there was no internal isolation to drain it down, or it wasn't used. Every install we do includes isolation and a shown drain-down routine.
Can you fit a tap for a garden office or greenhouse?
Yes — longer runs use buried MDPE at frost-safe depth with isolation at the house end. It's quoted as a small project rather than a standard install.
Will an outside tap reduce my water pressure?
No meaningful effect on the rest of the house — it's another outlet, not a restriction. Flow at the tap itself depends on the run length and your incoming supply.
Do you replace existing outside taps at the same price?
Like-for-like replacement on a sound feed is usually quicker than a new install and priced accordingly at the lower end of the band.
