Frequently asked questions
Why is my Saniflo running constantly?
Usually a stuck micro-switch or pressure switch, a leaking non-return valve letting discharged waste flow back, or a genuine slow leak into the unit. Constant running overheats motors — switch it off at the isolator and book a repair.
Can you unblock a macerator without replacing it?
Yes, in most cases — the unit is isolated, drained and opened, the obstruction cleared and blades checked. If the jam has burned the motor, we'll tell you before any parts money is spent.
What can't go into a macerator toilet?
Wipes (including 'flushable' ones), sanitary products, cotton wool, kitchen fat and heavy paper wads. Macerators are the least forgiving waste system in the house.
How long does a macerator last?
Typically 8–15 years depending on usage and water hardness. Regular descaling and correct use push you toward the top of that range.
Do you install new macerator units?
Yes — new installations and like-for-like replacements, with venting and discharge pipework checked or corrected, since a badly vented install is behind many 'faulty unit' complaints.
My macerator smells — is that normal?
No. Odour points to a venting fault, a perished seal, or scale-and-waste build-up inside the unit. All are serviceable; none improve on their own.
