Full-bore variants avoid the slight flow restriction of standard pattern valves — relevant on shower feeds and the cylinder cold feed where flow is performance. Quality matters more than pattern: a branded valve seals for decades; the cheapest weep from new.

Valves seize from disuse like stopcocks do. The annual routine: turn each isolation valve closed and open once (the same smoke-alarm-day habit as the stopcock test), and replace any that weep or refuse. Tenants and family members should know where the critical ones are — the washing machine valves and the stopcock at minimum.
